We recommend that you schedule a routine exam/cleaning at least twice per year (Most insurance companies cover two exams/cleanings per year. Individual consultations and dental exams consist of cleanings, x-rays (when needed), and a focus on encouraging proper home care and overall oral health. We also provide sealants to help protect teeth against decay, fluoride treatments for healthier and stronger enamel. Tartar typically returns within 90-120 days of professional cleaning regardless of the most effective personal care regiments.

Sealants should be used as part of a child’s total preventive dental care. Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings which are applied to the chewing surfaces of the molars (back teeth) to prevent decay. Most tooth decay in children and teens occurs in these surfaces. Applying sealants does not require drilling or removing tooth structure. It is an easy three-step process that takes a few minutes to apply and can last for 5 to 10 years. Sealants should be checked regularly, and reapplied when needed.

We recommend brushing 3-4 minutes, the length of an average song. Using an egg timer is a good way to measure your brushing time. You generally think they’re brushing longer, but most of the time you spend less than a minute brushing. To make sure you’re doing a thorough job and not missing any spots, we advised to brush the full 3-4 minutes twice a day instead of brushing multiple times throughout the day.

Brushing after every meal is a must because much of what we eat is broken down into sugars. Sugars break down into acids that can and do damage teeth. So brushing after meals is ALWAYS a healthy initiative. If there is no toothbrush handy, consider rinsing with tap water. Any and all elimination of residual food is essential to good dental care.
